Portrait Guide

My Portrait Session: A friendly guide

You have booked your portrait session but you have never set foot in a studio, so what do you do? No need for worries, having your photograph taken is not the terrifying ordeal some expect but rather a fantastic and enjoyable opportunity to capture memories of the ones you love.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE I ARRIVE?
- Have a look around your home. Any bare walls needing filled? Generic pictures of flowers that could be changed to something more personal?
- Set yourself a budget then have a look at our price list. Consider what you want and what you can afford.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
- A comb/brush: essential for those last minute stray hairs
- Makeup: For a lifestyle shoot it is useful to have some simple make-up with you. Alternatively a professional make-up artist can be provided for an additional fee. Contact us for more information
- Change of clothes: If you want to try for a variety of looks bring an alternative set of clothes.
- Personal props: Bring along any items that show something about yourself. Perhaps an instrument or a child’s favourite toy.

WHAT ARE THE RIGHT CLOTHES FOR A PORTRAIT?
This depends entirely on the type of photographs you are looking for. If you want traditional formal portraits than smart casual or formal wear are suitable. If it’s more of a relaxed contemporary look you want then jeans and t-shirts are preferred.

A few suggestions:
- Co-ordinate style: If half the group are in formalwear, the other half in shorts then your pictures will look a bit odd. Decide upon a style that suits everyone
- Co-ordinate colour: Complimentary colours look better than clashing colours: for simplicity it’s sometimes best to pick a colour for everyone to wear.
- Try to avoid plain white or grey shirts: These tend to clash with the backdrops
- Bright colours: These add life and vibrance to pictures

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I ARRIVE FOR MY PORTRAIT SESSION
We like to keep things relaxed and friendly for each shoot
- Settling in: After your arrival we have a sit down to discuss exactly what you are wanting from your portrait session. Formal or silly, traditional or contemporary: this is the time to let us know and ask any questions you may have.
- The shoot: Once you are settled we move through to the studio. If you have brought something to wear then you can change in our custom made changing room, conveniently located at the back of the studio. Once the shoot is underway we will guide you through the entire process from start to finish. Just remember this is your shoot: if you have any requests feel free to ask and we should be able to accommodate you.
- The viewing: This takes place either immediately after the shoot or a few days later, depending on scheduling. We return to the lounge for another sit down, you are provided with a price list and you are shown a slideshow of your images on our HD Projector. You can then browse through them at your leisure and make your decisions regarding the prints included in your sitting fee as well as any others you wish to buy.
- After the shoot: 1-2 days after the viewing an online gallery will be created for you. We will e-mail you the link and password to this page, which will remain online for some time. This offers friends and family the chance to see your photos and buy prints for themselves
