The Complete Introduction: Shooting & Editing

    Duration: 4 hours
    Max class size: 10 people
Equipment required: Own camera with manual controls (preferably DSLR, Bridge or Micro 4/3)

This class is the perfect introduction for anyone new to photography or those needing to brush up on their fundamentals. Students will be introduced to the foundations of photography, which will be built on over the day with plenty of practical experience to try out what you have learned. Techniques will be shown for portrait and landscape photography, the most popular aspects of hobby photography, with an opportunity to try out these new skills on the day.

The class doesn’t stop with capturing the image; in the modern world of the internet this is only half the battle. The rest of the class deals with what to do when the images are in the computer. Workflow and editing will be covered in a way that shows students how to make a good image look even better, where and how to upload files, as well as how to ensure that photos are not lost forever in a busy hard drive.

Most importantly the lesson includes Q&A, allowing participants the chance to have their questions answered about the things that most interest them. Every person is different and we feel it is important to meet the individual needs of each student as much as possible.

We will be running several classes throughout the week, details of these can be found on the lesson calendar. Depending on uptake and availability we will likely be introducing extra classes to suit people’s schedules. If you are interested but don’t see a class to suit you then e-mail us at info@dreghorn-photography.co.uk and we will try to make arrangements.

Stuart’s half day photography class was oustanding, having been on two previous courses, Stuart made all aspects of what is often a minefield, light work in simple, easy to understand language for all who attended the course. His depth of knowledge and un fussy manner made asking questions easy, particularly so for the beginners, in a class of photographers of all levels, were comfortable and at ease. Your depth of knowledge and uncomplicated explanations made the 4 hours fly in. Thank you for this introduction, to the “Magical world of Photography!”

The course was excellent with friendly advice and plenty of opportunities to practise new skills. The group I attended was very diverse from novice to keen amateur and Stuart set a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The content of the course was just right, and Stuart’s ability to find the correct settings for a very wide range of cameras from DSLR to Bridge (hybrid) was very impressive. Despite the very cold day and the grey and overcast conditions the sessions outside were very valuable. As someone whose hobby has progressed over a 40-odd year period from Zenit E film SLR to a Canon DSLR and many things in between, I would have no hesitation whatever recommending this excellent course to everyone. Thanks Stuart for an brilliant day!

Stuart made you feel welcome as soon as you arrived, offering tea / coffee & creating a friendly environment. The class I attended started of slowly going through the basics, Stuart had great patience attending to each individuals requirements, that they had different cameras & differing levels of experience. The pace then picked up & Stuart went into the camera controls / settings in good detail ensuring that no one was left behind or not fully involved. Overall I enjoyed myself & felt that I had picked up sufficient knowledge to get off the auto mode on my SLR. Thanks to Stuart for a great camera course.

A warm welcome from Stuart (on a very cold morning) set the tone for a very interesting and very helpful course. A disparate group of students with different cameras was very quickly put at ease by Stuart and the way he explained the controls on each camera certainly helped me understand much more than the auto settings of my camera! He shared his knowledge of the art and definitely has pointed me in a new and more interesting direction. Stuart made sure there was time for questions and answers and I certainly did not feel that any question that I had were “daft” or “silly”. All in all, an excellent experience and I will almost certainly take further courses with Stuart.
